TLG Newsletter Sept 2021

Volume 19 | Sept. 6, 2021 Terrace Lake Gardens New location Neighborhood monthly meeting! Third Tuesday, 9/21, 7 PM! Do you have questions about public safety? Trash disposal? Hi neighbors! All homeowners and residents in Terrace Lake Gardens are invited to our monthly homes association meetings. The next one will be Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 PM. We really believe in the value of building community, sharing information, and answering your questions when possible. Good news! Our neighbors at Red Bridge Baptist Church 4901 E. Red Bridge Road, are glad for us to meet in their youth building, on the west side of their property. Join us if you like! I'll bring one of my air purifiers that is well-documented to kill viruses, including covid, indoors, to help protect everyone's health during the meeting. Here's more info on that: https://www.vollara.com/certified-space-technology/?u=nolawood If you have questions for the church, their number is (816) 761-1194. The friends at Red Bridge Baptist are also offering assistance again to widows in our neighborhood who need help with yardwork and tree maintenance! We appreciate RBBC being great neighbors, over the years! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • *We're looking forward to hosting our fall neighborhood garage sale!* Please email your garage sale information: your address, a few featured items, and hours and days you plan to be open for business, to board member Marjorie Broce, marjoriejbroce@gmail.com as we get closer to Sept. 30-Oct. 3. Anyone can have up to 3 garage sales a year, according to KC ordinance, so you don't have to have yours that weekend, but plan it when it's best for you. We'll advertise those participating that weekend.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Faith Leaders, Neighbors, Business Partners and HOA’s, KCPD invites you to our next monthly meeting called: “Engage KC” hosted by KCPD. Every 4th Thursday of the month, 6 PM., South Patrol 1st floor Community Room, 9701 Marion Park Drive KCMO 64137 To provide information and speakers relevant to your neighborhoods, city services, crime prevention, current affairs, quality of life issues, local government, and KCPD. We will be in person and on Webex, Thursday, Sept 23, 6:00 PM More info: Mary McCall Office: 816-672-2828 mary.mccall@kcpd.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good news! KCMO residents can drop off leaf and brush at the city’s three leaf and brush locations daily (except Sundays) and fees are waived on Saturdays for residents with ID. Proof of residency is required w/ state issued ID. KCMO maintains three Leaf and Brush drop-off sites: 11660 N. Main Street (NE corner of Northeast Cookingham Drive and North Main Street), 1815 N. Chouteau Trafficway 10301 Raytown Road (just south of 470, pretty convenient for our area) For more information on the Leaf and Brush program, visit: kcmo.gov/leafandbrush. Did you know, each resident or homeowner is responsible for keeping our fences clear for visibility, especially those on a corner who need to be considerate of drivers who need to be able to see oncoming traffic. Please also be aware that white honeysuckle is a non-native plant which has become invasive, taking the place of other more beneficial native plants. Each homeowner is also responsible for keeping the gutters at our curbs clear of debris, to prevent sewer clogs, and for the safety of neighbors walking. These drop-offs are a great opportunity to clear out lots of yard debris.
  • Have questions on installing a new driveway, a fence, or building an addition? City rules can be found at https://www.kcmo.gov/city-hall/departments/city-planning-development/code-question-hotline
  • If anyone wants to see how we're doing in KC on public safety, https://www.kcpd.org/crime/crime-statistics/ is the link. It’s updated every day. Homicides are trending down. There have been more issues with catalytic converters and cars being stolen. Please be sure to lock your doors, and park inside your garage if at all possible.
  • Our neighborhood cleanup day we usually host with dumpsters from the city won't be available to us this year. We encourage you to take advantage of the other options available. Tons more trash disposal options and details are available at https://www.kcmo.gov/city-hall/departments/trash
Did you know it is illegal to put unwanted items out on the curb, where they could even get ruined before the right person might see that it's available? Nonprofits that accept items that might otherwise be thrown away such as furniture, household goods, and building materials include Major Thrift on Main Street in Grandview, Flourish Furnishings https://flourishfurnishings.org/ on Grandview Rd. (816) 946-8600, or Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Martin City https://habitatkc.org/restorekc (816) 231-6889. Please contact them to see if they can pick up your unwanted items, or you can deliver them on designated days. Of course you can post items to sell or give away on our Facebook page if you'd like to bless someone in the neighborhood. ~Please invite your neighbors who are online, who may be unaware of this newsletter, to email me: Nola.Wood@sbcglobal.net to be added to our neighborhood email list. We also have the Terrace Lake Gardens Facebook page, where you can request to be included if you live, or own a home in our Homes Association. Please list your address in answer to the membership question there, so the admins can approve your membership! ~We still plan to look into providing a mailed newsletter, perhaps quarterly, to provide this information to our neighbors who aren't online. Many thanks for being good neighbors! Nola Wood Secretary, Terrace Lake Gardens Homes Association 816.761.9828 landline, 816.820.3413 mobile Did you know, KC rules mandate that the maximum permitted height for grass is 10 inches. If the city finds it necessary to mow your lawn, the cost is MUCH greater than doing it yourself, or hiring someone. It really means a lot to us all to keep your property looking nice, impacting property values, and, sadly, contributing to crime if criminals think it looks like no one cares.... You may have heard of the "broken window syndrome" One problem left unresolved contributes to an appearance of "no one cares if I ...." Please be a good neighbor.  Also, leaves, grass clippings, and brush must be kept out of the street and storm sewers. We are each responsible for clearing the curbs in front of our property to keep the storm drains open, preventing basements flooding, and making it safer for our neighbors who walk. More info is at www.kcmo.gov We're looking forward to connecting with all our neighbors! Please invite others to contact us. Have you been to our Facebook page? If you live or own property in Terrace Lake Gardens, we invite you to join our Facebook page! Be sure to answer the membership question, because we do restrict this page to our actual neighbors &/or homeowners, from the east side of Cleveland Ave. east to both sides of Norby, and from the south side of Red Bridge to both sides of 115th St. because some of what is offered is paid for by our homes association dues. Thank you! https://www.facebook.com/groups/TerracelakegardensTerrace Lake Gardens Homes Association | 11301 Kensington Ave., Kansas City, MO 64137
